Another much awaited movie manages to disappoint me and seems that it might just bite the dust at the box office too. As I go about writing this review, I think by setting high expectations I am too harsh on directors like Mani Ratnam.
Lets talk about the movie itself now, the movie is an adaptation of Ramayana with certain twists and bents at the end (which I believe might not go down well with elderly and the orthodox section of the masses). The first half vis a vis the second one was too slow to create any interest. Abhi-Aish were good with their performances. Special mention of a traditional dance number performed by Aishwarya and choreographed by Shobana, which was a treat to eyes. Cameos of actors like Govinda and Ravi Kishan were decent but they could have been far more impressive. And then there was Vikram, his act was good but he could have been used in a better manner. Trust me, I have seen him in Tamil movies like Anayan (Aparichit was dubbed hindi version) and Sethu (Tere Naam was inspired from here) he is far more capable and talented than what those slow motion chase sequences suggest.
To summarize, for me, few individual performances, cinematography & the back ground score (thanks to the maestro) are the real winners as they give the entire plot the much required life!I would say the movie is worth a watch but do not expect a lot out of it.
Meanwhile, have decided that i should prioritize writing reviews on upcoming low budget movies like 'Udan' (written by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane) and Tere Bin Laden (a comedy depicting journey of an ambitious Pakistani reporter to USA).
